Buymed began in 2018 as a pharmaceutical e-commerce platform connecting manufacturers and distributors with pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals across Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. The company is now expanding to also serve individual consumers, improving access to quality healthcare products through modern retail formats and digital channels.

OUR COMMITMENT TO IMPACT

Buymed approach is to focus on expanding availability, strengthening safety and reliability, and reducing procurement costs for small pharmacies. Together, these pillars create a more efficient, transparent, and equitable healthcare system.

The Story before Buymed

Traditional pharmaceutical supply chain remains fragmented, with inconsistent product availability, opaque pricing, and uneven distribution, challenges that disproportionately affect rural and underserved communities.

A day at District 10 wholesale medicine market

In Vietnam, small pharmacies had to buy medicines the traditional way: a physical trip to the District 10 wholesale market, usually early morning so they could get back the same day. Once there, they walked through a dense cluster of wholesalers, going stall to stall with a handwritten list (core items plus “maybe” items requested by patients).

The whole process was inefficient. There was no clear price board, so they must ask, note down, compare, and sometimes walk back to earlier stalls because prices and discounts vary. Purchasing was fragmented: one stall had the right brand but not the dosage, another had the dosage but short expiry, another pushed bundles with slow-moving SKUs, so they ended up placing multiple small orders and risked missing items or receiving partial deliveries. Minimum order quantities were common (by box or minimum value per line), pushing them to buy more than their cash flow comfortably allows. On top of that, it costed a full day of operations (not selling, not advising patients), and delivery was troublesome, either carried risky loads on a motorbike, paid for transport, or waited several days for stall delivery.

It was a high-friction, high-risk supply process that wasted time, tied up cash, and still failed to reliably secure the right medicines when patients needed them.

“Before Buymed, I had to choose between price and cash flow. Now I can manage both.”

Ms. Piseth, Pharmacist, Cambodia

Before Buymed, affordability was not just about buying cheap, it was about managing risk. Most of her medicines came from a few familiar distributors, each with different price lists, discount rules, and minimum order requirements. To get a “better price,” she often had to buy in bulk, even for products that moved slowly. That meant cash sitting on shelves, sometimes for months.

When prices fluctuated or a distributor ran out of stock, Piseth had limited options. She either waited for the next delivery, bought from another supplier at a higher price, or told patients to come back later. For some medicines, the margin was so thin that any small price increase made them hard to sell. In practice, she stocked fewer options and avoided carrying certain products altogether.

After switching to Buymed, the biggest change was not a single discount, but control. With transparent pricing on the app, no minimum order quantity, and frequent voucher campaigns, she no longer needed to overbuy just to secure a deal. She could order smaller quantities, compare alternatives, and adjust her stock based on real demand rather than fear of running out

Ms. Piseth has been using Buymed regularly since September 2024
